How Drone Pressure Washing Works

Drone pressure washing puts a nozzle at height on a hose. A ground pump sends water and cleaning agents up the hose. The drone holds the nozzle at a steady distance from the wall while the pilot works from the ground. It suits tall facades, glass, tanks and other high surfaces.

Half of a 115-foot water tower

One Apellix flight cleaned its half at 8 GPM and 3,000 PSI at the pump. A crew on a 135-foot lift took 5 hours for the other half.

The hose and pump do the lifting

Water and cleaning agents come up the tether from a ground-based pressure-wash system, so the drone carries no water tank. The ground rig holds the pump, water supply and chemistry.

ABZ lists hoses of 30 and 60 meters for the C10. Lucid notes that a heavier hose can reduce working height, which makes hose weight part of every job plan. The Why Drone Weight Matters guide covers the math, and the Power Tether guide covers ground power.

Standoff keeps the spray steady

Standoff is the distance from nozzle to wall. Apellix flight software handles positioning and standoff distance, and ABZ builds in radar that tracks the distance to the facade.

Nozzles shape the spray. The ABZ C10 lists a 0 degree pencil jet, a 25 degree flat spray and a 40 degree foaming spray. The B2 ships with a twist tip, a shooter tip and a 45 degree bend extension rod. The PSI guide sets pressure by surface.

Chemistry lifts the dirt

Soft washing uses controlled, low-pressure flow with cleaning solution to remove organic growth and staining. Lucid lists soft wash at 12 GPM and 300 PSI.

Glass follows a cycle of pre-rinse, wash with dwell time and a purified-water rinse. A deionization or reverse osmosis system on the ground rig removes the minerals that cause spots. The Ground-Fed Window Cleaning guide goes deeper on purified water.

Jobs that suit it

Apellix lists building facades, windows, solar panels, ships, storage tanks and stadiums for the B2. Lucid points to routine commercial windows, glazed facades, curtain walls and recurring programs.

Ground-level flatwork stays with your pressure washer. Everything above the first floor belongs to the drone, so one operator can quote the whole property.

Build With SkyPSI

Learn the rig with SkyPSI training.

SkyPSI puts the B2 flight kit, training, support, and marketing guidance behind the skills you use on the ground. You build your own business, and the drone takes your service to the top of the building.
